LOUNGE COMPILATION ALBUMS

　90年代末のラウンジ・ミュージック・ブームで大量にリリースされたコンピレーション・アルバムの数々。その中には60〜70年代のマイナーなイージーリスニング・オーケストラの作品や、当時は一般にほとんど流通しなかったライブラリー・ミュージックをコンパイルしたものも多かった。いわゆる“幻のお宝”というやつだ。現在はそうしたCDの大半が廃盤となっており、中には100ドルを超えるプレミア価格が付いているものもある。そこで、今回は90年代に発売されたラウンジ系コンピレーションCDの中から、個人的におススメする11タイトルをピックアップしてみたい。

パイ・レコードの音源で構成された４枚組ボックス。いずれもイギリスの有名なラウンジ系オーケストラの作品ばかりです。このディスク１は、イージーリスニング・ファンお馴染みの古典的名曲のカバーをコンパイル。ワリとオーソドックスで素直なアレンジのナンバーが多いかと思いますね。そんな中でトニー・ハッチによる「男と女」#7はラテン風味を効かせたボサ・タッチが秀逸 。ソウルフルな仕上がりの#9やジャズ・ファンク・スタイルの#11なんかもセンス良しです。	ラテン・ジャズやボサノヴァのイージーなインスト・カバーを集めたディスク２。ロイ・バッドの神業的なピアノプレイをフューチャーしたグル―ヴィーなサンバ#4がなんといっても素晴らしい！エネルギッシュなラテンアフロ・ビートの炸裂する#8も聴き応え十分だし、ロイ・バッドがマルコス・ヴァリを料理した#11がまたエレガント。ローリー・ジョンソンの#12はオリジナル作品らしいのですが、これまがた超お洒落なボサに仕上がっています。それ以外もはずれナシの１枚。	こちらは60年代に流行したスパイ映画サウンドやゴーゴーサウンドにインスパイアされた楽曲で更生されているディスク３。いわゆるクラブ系のグル―ヴィーなラウンジ・ナンバーが目白押しです。中でもイギリスの有名な作曲家でもあるピート・ムーアによる#6やシリル・ステイプルトンの#7辺りのちょっとメランコリックなムードや、「ピンク・パンサー」のテーマを硬質なジャズファンクにアレンジした#9、いかにもサイケでキャッチーでクールな#17なんか最高です。	その名の通り、60年代から70年代初頭にかけてのポップヒットをラウンジ・スタイルでインスト・カバーした楽曲で構成されたディスク４です。まあ、全体的に奇をてらったところのない正統派路線のナンバーが多いかも。唯一、ライチャス・ブラザーズのお馴染みソフトバラードをハモンドオルガン炸裂のサイケデリックで疾走感溢れるジャズファンクとして衣替えした#17はユニーク。あとは可もなく不可もなくといった按配で、ボックス中では最も面白みに欠ける内容かもしれません。

イタリア映画音楽のラウンジ・カバーばかりを集めたコンピレーション。どうやら、70年代にジャズやイージーリスニングの作品を多くリリースしたイタリアのレコード会社Jokerの音源から選曲されているようです。ただし、#1〜#6までは最近の録音。パオロ・トメレーリといえばそこそこ知られたベテランのジャズミュージシャンですが、なかなか上品で渋い演奏を聴かせます。また、チプリアーニの名曲をバロック風味増量でカバーした#11、「激しい季節」のテーマをムードジャズ風にアレンジした#14もグッド。	こちらもJokerの音源を使用したシリーズで、タイトルの通りエロ系の楽曲を集めた1枚。ただ、なぜか#1〜#9はピエロ・ヴィヴァレッリ監督の日本未公開映画“Codice d' amore orientale”のオリジナルサントラ盤をそのまま全曲収録しております。これはこれでファンキーなサイケロックといった感じで悪くないんですけどね。「エマニエル夫人 」#12、「愛のエマニエル」#13 、「O嬢の物語」#14といかにもな選曲ですが、いずれも手堅い仕上がり。ファウスト・パペッティもカバーしていた#15が激エロです(笑)	世界的に有名なイギリスのライブラリーミュージック専門レーベル、KPMミュージックの音源から選曲されたコンピレーション。プールサイド・バーで流れているBGMをイメージした、トロピカルで爽やかでスウィートなラウンジ・サウンドが盛り沢山です。アーティストのクレジットは一切ありませんが、アラン・ホークショーやジェームズ・クラークなど、ラウンジ・ファンにはお馴染みのビッグ・ネームによる楽曲ばかり。一切のはずれナシで、実に充実した内容です。これは高額プレミアも致し方なしでしょう。	こちらもKPMミュージックの音源で構成された1枚。ただ、今回は一部でキャピトル・レコードの音源が混ざっています。言うなれば、60年代当時のプレイボーイ・クラブなんかをイメージしたバチェラー・サウンドといったところでしょうか。エレガントでムーディーで甘美なメロディとアレンジがアダルトな雰囲気を嫌がおうにも高めますね〜。ペチュラ・クラークの大ヒット曲をソフトな男女混成のスキャットを駆使してカバーした#8もいい感じ。全体的には若干地味目だけど、なかなか悪くない選曲です。

当時輸入CD屋さんでは結構出回っていた2枚組。ラウンジミュージックの鉄板ヒットを中心にコンパイルされており、その選曲のセンスは実に見事なもんです。ジョフ・ラヴがUKドラマのテーマ曲をカバーした#11や、イギリス人にはお馴染みだという映画予告編のジングル# 16、そして随所に挿入されるKPMのライブラリー・ミュージックなど 、有名曲の間に混じってマニアックだけど上質な楽曲が収められており 、ラウンジ入門者だけでなく上級者も十分に満足できる内容です。	こちらは全体的にボーカル物を中心とした選曲となっていますが、やはりディスク１と同じように定番のイージーリスニング・ヒットと知る人ぞ知る名曲を絶妙なバランスで織り交ぜたラインナップは秀逸。ちなみに、ラウンジミュージックとは主にインスト物限定の名称で、ボーカルを含む場合は広義にイージーリスニングと呼ばれるのだそうです。なので、基本的に間違ってはいないんですよね、この2枚組CDの企画自体は。しかし、#23だけは90年代の作品。ちょっと浮いているかも。	ドイツで企画された2枚組コンピレーション。イージー・リスニング系の大御所アーティストが顔を揃えながらも、どちらかというと取り上げられることの少ないナンバーを中心にセレクトされているのが好印象かと思います。日本では「刑事コロンボ」のテーマ曲としても知られる#10は、レイ・コーニフによるエレガントでゴージャスなアレンジが絶妙。ライザ・ミネリの#7は、スティーヴ―・ワンダーの原曲とは一味違ったお洒落な仕上がりです。悪くないラインナップですね。	こちらはパーシー・フェイス楽団の名刺代わりとも言える#6やらボヴィー・ヴィントンの泣く子も黙る名曲#5などの超ウルトラ定番イージーリスニングを随所に配しながら、その一方でドイツのラウンジ系オーケストラ、ジーグフリード・フランツ楽団のスインギーな#15、ピーター・ネロがB.J.トーマスの名曲を抒情感たっぷりなスロー・ナンバーとしてカバーした#8、モンゴ・サンタマリアの陽気でファンキーな#9など、ラウンジ・クラシックの隠れた名作が目白押しです。

70年代イギリスのバジェット系レーベル、レディフュージョンに残されたラウンジ系音源を中心にセレクトされたコンピレーション。そのタイトルやチープなジャケットからも想像できるように、サイケでモンドでグル―ヴィーなナンバーばかりが収められています。『華麗なる賭け』の主題歌をパワフルなラテン・サンバにアレンジした#10、マンゴ・ジェリーの大ヒット曲をイージーでスウィンギーに衣替えさせた# 17などのカバー作品はもとより、各バンドのオリジナル曲も秀作揃い。これはなかなか楽しめます。	当時ラウンジ系DJユニットとして大活躍していたカーミンスキー・エクスペリエンスの選曲によるラウンジコンピ。もうさすが！って感じの見事なラインナップでございます。お洒落でグル―ヴィーでファンキーでキャッチーでポップなナンバーが勢ぞろい。なんといっても個人的に大好きなのはジョン・シュローダーの手掛けたメロウでダンサンブルな#10、あと最近では日本の整髪料CMでも使用されているミシェル・ルグランの#17辺りでしょうかね。もちろん、それ以外も一切はずれのない選曲。素晴らしい。	こちらは主に50年代の音源を中心に、いわゆる中堅どころのラウンジ・オーケストラ作品を集めた、けっこうマニアックな内容のコンピレーション。ビートルズやロックンロール以前の古典的なラウンジ・サウンドが集められています。それでもあまり古臭さを感じさせないのは選曲者のセンスでしょう。グレン・ミラーの代表作をラテン・ムードたっぷりにアレンジした#8や「ゴールドフィンガー」をジャズ・スイング風に大変身させた#12など、古き良き時代のナイトクラブちっくな世界を堪能することが出来ます。	イギリスのライブラリー・ミュージック専門レーベル、アポロ・サウンドが60年代末〜70年代半ばにかけてリリースした楽曲からセレクトされた1枚。ジャケットのチープさに一抹の不安を覚えますけど、これがまあ、全編に渡ってなんともお洒落でポップ、キュートでダンサンブル。まさにタイトル通りのハッピーなラウンジ・ナンバーばかりが揃っています。いずれも殆ど無名のオーケストラばかりですし、中には共産圏ポーランドの音源まで含まれていますが、その仕上がりはどれもゴージャス。超おススメであります。
